About Artistic Interiors By Dollahon Designs
Artistic Interiors by Dollahon Design is owned and operated by Dan and Karen Dollahon, a husband and wife team, whose diverse backgrounds in the Art and Interiors Design fields come together to provide a number of unique services. Both Dan and Karen are graduates of the Art Institute of Houston where they received Associate Arts Degree in Visual Communication and Interior Design respectively. Since 1991 they have combined their talents to form a company that provides a myriad of decorative painting services for both residential and commercial spaces. These services include faux finishing, decorative painting, faux bois, decorative wall treatments, gilding, furniture refinishing, custom stenciling, murals and fine art ranging in styles from classical to contemporary.
Someone unfamiliar with the industry might not understand some of these terms. Faux finishing or faux painting is a term used to describe painting a surface to look like something else. “Faux” is a French word meaning false. An example would be faux marbling, faux stone or faux wood graining, also called faux bois. Decorative wall treatments are also sometimes referred to as faux painting in which a pattern is hand applied to the walls using paint, tinted glaze, plaster or other available mediums to give the walls visible pattern or texture. All of which can be tailored to the tastes of the client. Samples are provided for every job prior to doing any work and all of the work is done in-house. Karen refinished an antique kitchen table and chairs for us this summer. She did an outstanding job and we look forward to using them again.
I recently had Karen with Artistic Designs complete two murals in my home. One in the foyer and the other in my dining room. She did an awesome job. I love her design and she brought it to life in my home. She was very prompt and patient with me when it came to my selections and scheduling. There was no mess after the job was completed which was a big plus. She also hung two tapestries on two different walls with percision. I am very pleased with her services and I would recommend her and will certainly use her again for my artistic mural projects.
The Dollahons have been doing art work for my company for a very long time. I have never had a single complaint or negative response from a client regarding their work. Whether you are doing a wall finish, a piece of furniture, or a large scale mural, these folks know their stuff and are clearly gifted.
I am an interior designer who has hired Artistic Interiors for several projects, including both commercial and residential jobs. Their hand painted murals are done with impeccable skills, their prices are fair and they are delightful people to work with. This company knows how to make your visions turn into reality. I will hire them again and refer them to anyone in need of a little creativity in their lives!
First experience with Artistic Interiors, and was totally blown away how beautiful my fireplace and Stairway came out. Very professional job and very neat. Price was very reasonable for a professional artist that does such unique work. Karen was delightful to work with and always smiling. Provided me with samples before we started, and was flexible with my work hours. She has a customer for life. Thanks Karen!
I have had the pleasure of working with Karen and Dan Dollahon since we met in at the 1997 ASID Show house. Both Dan and Karen have provided me with quality interior murals painted on linen, faux finishes and signage painting. For the 08' ASID show house, that won the best model home award, Dan provided the hand painted mural, with templetes that I approved for the bathroom walls. The kitchen cabinets in this carriage house apartment did not look right with just a painted surface, so Dan put a glaze and top coat on the cabinets and the cabinet base surround. For a residential project where the client wanted a Tuscan scene painted to see from the bathtub, Dan painted the mural on linen and Karen finished the bathroom walls with a rubbed faux venetian plaster look to match with the theme of the mural, 07'. For Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen, all the walls had a venetian plaster finish applied, with a sealer to protect the walls, and a large map was painted on a focal wall with the names of the towns that entree dishes are named for located on the map 09'. Dan also painted the diptych I used in the 08’ show house for the living room wall.
I am a custom home builder. The couple I was building for hired Artistic Interiors to faux paint some columns for their media room. They turned out beautiful. I was very impressed and the home owners were elated.
